*How the Church Can Stand Together Against the Silent Killer of Faith*
🔹 For Starters
*“Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7*
The early church faced relentless persecution under Nero. Death loomed near, and anxiety was a constant companion. Peter, writing to suffering believers, gives a timeless command: humble yourselves and cast your cares on God.
🔹 What *Is* Anxiety?
Greek: Merimnao – “to be troubled with cares”
Anxiety is mentioned nearly 20 times in Scripture. It’s not just a passing emotion—it’s something God deeply cares about.
“When worry is present, trust cannot crowd its way in.” – Billy Graham
Anxiety is more than fear. It’s a faith killer, a parasite that slowly consumes our trust in God.
Unlike fear, which sometimes has purpose (i.e., reverence toward God), anxiety has no redemptive quality in Scripture. It undermines, isolates, and immobilizes.
🔹 The Church Then & Now
Peter’s letters weren’t to individuals but to communities—churches like so many of us call home. In times of persecution, division, or cultural anxiety, unity and love are essential.
đź“– 1 Peter 1:2225 reminds us to:
Love one another fervently and hold fast to the enduring Word of God
đź“– 1 Peter 2:48 calls us:
Living stones, building up a spiritual house, we are bound together by Jesus, our Cornerstone
🧱 That mean’s you’re a brick!
🔹 Together We Cast Our Cares on the Lord
We are not meant to bear our burdens alone.
“Brother, I may not have the solution, but I’ll sit in the storm with you.” That’s the spirit of the Church.
But here’s the twist:
📖 1 Peter 5:67 never promises God will fix every care—we’re simply called to cast them on Him because He cares.
🔹 Personal Reflection
Despite how it might look even preachers feel anxious. We all have the same thoughts, like we all do who have live on his green earth. “I want to be liked. I want people to come to church. But rejection is real.”
And when life hits hard—like during the traumatic birth of my son, Baby William who was an emergency c-section—anxiety feels crushing. But even there, God is present. His Church is present.
🔹 Jesus Understands Anxiety
Jesus Himself was “exceedingly sorrowful, even to death” in Gethsemane (Mark 14:32–34). He brought Peter, James, and John into His anxiety. He showed us what vulnerability looks like.
Look around your own circle in life—who are your Peter, James, and John.
We need each other. To sit, to watch, to pray.
🙋 Search your circle and see who raises their hands to be there for you. You’re not alone.
🔹 A Community Against Isolation
“Anxiety carpools with depression.”
It thrives in silence and masks. But humility breaks its power.
Let’s stop pretending and start confessing to one another, praying for one another, casting our cares together.
📖 Psalm 55:22: *“Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you.”*
🔹 The Call to Be the Church
Jesus is our Prince of Peace. But He’s also given us each other.
🙏 Get therapy.
🙏 Get help.
🙏 But don’t neglect the spiritual side.
The world is groaning with anxiety. Young people especially are drowning in it—38% of teen girls and 26% of teen boys experience it. It’s rising fast.
But the Church has a part to play.
God is moving—don’t miss your moment.
🔹 Final Charge
Let’s keep the spirit of Peter, James, and John alive.
Let’s cast our cares… *together.*
God cares for you. God cares for us.
