One of the deepest desires of believers is to see their families come to Christ. The story of the Passover in Exodus 12 provides a powerful lesson on how to “fight for your family.” Through the sacrifice of the lamb, God showed how His protection and salvation extend to entire households.

Let’s explore what this means for us today…

The Provision: A Lamb for Every House
Exodus 12:3b“…Every man is to select a lamb which he will sacrifice for the protection of his family. There will be a sacrificial lamb for each house…”

The Passover lamb symbolized Jesus, the Lamb of God, sacrificed for our salvation. Each household needed its own lamb—salvation is personal but impacts families. New believers often face criticism: “I thought YOU were supposed to be a Christian!”. Our faith journey isn’t just about words; it’s about living a transformed life that speaks for itself.

The Problem: Living Christ-like at Home
Exodus 12:5a“…Your lamb must be a clean one, a lamb without any blemishes…”

It’s often hardest to reflect Christ among those closest to us. Families see our flaws and failures more than anyone else. God refines us through what we call the “School of Rotten Attitudes and Stinking Responses” (R.A. and S.R.).

In 1825, a Russian revolutionary survived a hanging when the rope snapped. Instead of recognizing God’s providence, he mocked his executioners: “They don’t even know how to make a proper rope.” When the Czar heard this, he ordered another execution—this time, it succeeded. His careless words cost him his life.

Lesson: Sometimes, our sarcastic or defensive responses push our loved ones further from Christ. Gentleness and grace can make all the difference.

The Privilege: Covering Your Family in Prayer
Exodus 12:7“…After you sacrifice the lamb, you will take the blood and put it on the doorposts of the houses that you live in…”Prayer is the spiritual “blood on the doorposts” of our families. Use Scripture to intercede for them: Acts 16:31 – “I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, not only will I be saved, but also my family.”Malachi 4:6 – “The Heavenly Father is turning the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” 2 Peter 3:9 – “God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

How to Fight for Your Family
1. Walk in Love – Be patient, kind, and forgiving.
2. Point Them to the King – Live a life that makes them curious about Christ.
3. Stay Close to Jesus – Let them see His light reflected in you.

A Story of Reflection: Bringing Light to Dark Places
During WWII, German paratroopers invaded Crete. The Greek villagers resisted with whatever they had, but they suffered greatly. One survivor, Alexander Papaderous, later founded a peace institute at the battle site. When asked about the meaning of life, he pulled out a small mirror he had carried since childhood. As a boy, he had found a broken piece of a German soldier’s motorcycle mirror. He used it to reflect light into dark crevices, and over time, it became his life’s purpose: “I am a fragment of a mirror whose whole design and shape I do not know. Nevertheless, with what I have, I can reflect light into the dark places of this world.”

Be the Light for Your Family
Just as Papaderous used his small mirror to reflect light, we must reflect Christ’s love into our families. By living a life of faith, patience, and prayer, we create an opportunity for them to experience the love of Jesus firsthand.

Pray this out:
Lord, make me ‘a lamb for my house.’ Help me to prayerfully apply the blood of Jesus to my family and friends, believing that they will come to know You. Amen.
